Description

A popular preparation in Italy during the dead of winter, this red wine-spiked doughnut recipe would be great prepared wth spiced red wine or sweet vin santo, though you should feel free to use whatever quality drinking wine you have on hand. The finger-shaped, baked bites are sprinkled with sugar before they're placed in the oven to cook. Enjoy them as a soon as they're done and warm enough to handle.

Ingredients

1/2 cups extra-virgin olive oil
1/2 cups red wine
1/2 cups brown sugar
salt
3 cups flour
1/2 teaspoons baking powder
sugar

Directions

1In a large bowl, mix the oil, wine, brown sugar, and a pinch of salt.
2Add the flour sieved with the baking powder. Mix well until a dough forms.
3Preheat the oven to 180 degrees Celsius.
4Take a small amount of the dough and roll into thin sausage shapes the size of a little finger.
5Join up the ends to form a ring and sprinkle both sides with sugar.
6Place on parchment paper- lined baking tray and bake for 15 minutes.
